Mr Clay O’Brien brings over 28 years of
professional and industry experience
as a microfinance executive,
banker and lawyer.
Clay has more than eight years of
direct experience in Microfinance, the
funding of Small and Medium Enterprises, Microfinance Institutions
(MFIs) best practices and related fields from his various roles at
Opportunity International and AYANI. Whilst at ING Barings, he was
a specialist in the financial sector and the area of private sector
investments,
including funds management.
Mr O’Brien’s accomplishments include:
- Conducting over 30 on-site due diligence assessments of banks, NGO-MFIs, leasing
companies, insurers, stockbrokers or finance companies;
- Preparing 10 country or regional financial sector assessments and investment
opportunity
reports;
- Negotiating, documenting and completing more than 10 MFI acquisitions and investments;
- Advising on investment funds (including SME, microfinance and energy access
funds); and
- Raising debt, equity and donor funding for MFIs.
Clay holds a Master of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours).
