Mr Malai is a seasoned banker with 28 years of experience in a variety
of senior management functions, with ABN AMRO, Indosuez, the
National Bank of Commerce, and the Kenya Commercial Bank. Since
2002, he has moved to employ his financial skills to the field
of microfinance and has been leading and turning around a microfinance
institution in Kenya.
Mr Malai has significant experience as
team leader on numerous projects, including complex, multi-functional
teams. Accomplishments include:
•
Turnaround: Solely responsible for the turnaround of a struggling
microfinance program into a viable business, including streamlining
of business processes and human resource development. Moreover, as
consultant managed a portfolio turnaround from 70% to 7.5% portfolio
at risk.
•
Transformation of microfinance institution. Managed the spin-off
of a microfinance program into a separate legal entity, which is
now attracting socially responsible investors.
•
Merger: Part of management team that planned and effected the change
process of the large scale merger between ABN/AMRO and Citibank in
Kenya.
Mr Malai holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and
certifications in microfinance. |
