Institutional Support and Regulatory Framework
Burundi
One of AYANI’s senior consultants drafted the project document for a
sector support program focusing on strengthening the MFI retail capacity and
assisting the government to improve the microfinance regulatory framework (UNCDF/UNDP,
pre-firm incorporation).
Enterprise Development Policy Advice
Ethiopia
AYANI supported the Government of Ethiopia’s Engineering Capacity Building
Programme (ECBP), with policy advice on a market research facility which
would provide demand-driven, high-value information on domestic, regional
and global
markets with an integrated enterprise database / directory of in-Ethiopian
firms and their product / service offers (KfW, 2008).
Investment Promotion
Georgia
AYANI has been assisting a Dutch investment promotion firm with its initiatives
to promote SMEs in emerging markets and bring them into contact with Dutch
investors (Kubita, 2008).
Africa Capital Markets and Health Sector Investment

AYANI is currently doing research on the functioning of capital markets in
Africa with a view to better understand the reasons for underinvestment in
certain sectors, like the private health sector, and the role of cost of capital
(PharmAccess, 2010-2011).
IFRS Standard Setting and Reporting

In line with the findings of the Financial Services Working group of the SEEP
Microfinance Network, this consultancy sought to do initial research and planning
for the establishment of a Microfinance Reporting Standards Committee. The
project included in-depth interviews with stakeholders, a definition of the
mandate for the Committee and its proposed legal and organization structure
(SEEP, 2008).
Natural Disasters and Access to Finance – Policy
Advice

With a view to disaster preparedness, one of AYANI’s senior
consultants reviewed best practices policies worldwide, to enable
the stakeholders
to be better prepared and to mitigate the effect of major natural
disasters on Microfinance
Institutions (World Bank / UNCDF, pre-firm incorporation).
Transitioning from MITAF I to MITAF II
Sierra Leone
Under the transition phase from phase I to phase II of the Microfinance Investment
and Technical Assistance Facility (MITAF), AYANI as technical service provider,
has been providing technical input to the national microfinance policy that is
being drafted (KfW, 2010-11).
Financial Sector Development Plan
Sierra Leone
AYANI drafted the “Access to Finance and Rural Finance” study,
which formed a key technical input into the formulation of the
Financial Sector Development
Plan (KfW / World Bank / FIRST Initiative, 2008). Microfinance
Policy Advisor to Government
Singapore
One of AYANI’s senior Directors prepared advice on enlarging
the microfinance sector for the Government of Singapore (Government
of Singapore,
pre-firm
incorporation).
Sudanese Microfinance Development Facility (SMDF)
Southern Sudan
AYANI is assisting the government of Southern Sudan in developing a legal and
regulatory framework for microfinance institutions (GOSS, 2011).
Analytical Multi

Zimbabwe
The Genesis Analytics/AYANI consortium was selected as one of the contractors
for the Indefinite Delivery Agreement for the Zimbabwe Analytical Multi Donor
Trust Fund (World Bank, 2009-2011).
Policy Advice on Microfinance Sector Recovery
Zimbabwe
AYANI undertook an analysis of how best to restart the flow
of financing to Zimbabwe’s
small and micro-entrepreneurs, small holders, processors,
traders and others and microfinance sector at large. Recommendations
provided for
immediate
recovery as well as long term measures (SNV / ZAMFI, 2009). |
